Location:
Selous, Kilwa
4 nights · Full board
Day 1: Arrival in Selous & Sunset Boat Safari
12:00 PM – Arrive at camp in time for a relaxed lunch overlooking the river.
1:00 PM – Check in and settle into your bush tent. Spend the afternoon by the pool or relaxing around camp while taking in the sights and sounds of camp.
4:00 PM – Sunset boat safari along the Rufiji River, just outside the park boundary. Cruise past pods of hippos, crocodiles basking on the riverbanks, and the many bird species that thrive along the water.
Sundowners on a sandbank as the evening light settles across the river.
6:30 PM – Return to camp as dusk settles.
7:30 PM – Family-style dinner at camp.
9:00 PM – Overnight in your bush tent.
Day 2: Full Day Slow Selous in Nyerere National Park
6:00 AM – Early start with breakfast at camp, while animals are getting moving.
7:00 AM – Full-day Slow Selous, our signature experience. Begin the day with a game drive into Nyerere National Park. Open plains, riverine forest, and floodplains — following what's around rather than sticking to a fixed route.
1:00 PM – Bush picnic lunch. Mats, cushions, no rush. Take a short safari snooze if the shade’s good.
Afternoon – Board the boat in the park and spend the afternoon game viewing from the water. Cruise back to camp on the river as the animals come down to drink.
5:30 PM – Return to camp as the sun sets over the Rufiji River.
7:30 PM – Dinner at camp — the day usually gives you something to talk about.
9:00 PM – Overnight in camp. Soak in the sounds of the bush.
Day 3: Journey to the Kilwa Coast
8:00 AM – Breakfast, then head south toward the historic Kilwa Coast.
12:00 PM – Arrive in Kilwa in time for lunch.
1:00 PM – Check in and unwind by the beach. A swim in the Indian Ocean, or a spot in the shade — not much else to worry about.
Afternoon – Enjoy the slow pace of coastal life.
7:30 PM – Dinner featuring fresh seafood, Swahili flavours, and a friendly and welcoming table.
9:00 PM – Overnight by the ocean.
Day 4: Swahili Coast Exploration – Ruins & Snorkelling
8:00 AM – Breakfast at The Slow in the shade of palm trees.
10:00 AM – Head out by boat for the day to historic Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara Islands. Once central to trade along the Swahili coast, both are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You’ll walk through mosques, houses, and coral-stone walls, spread out and largely untouched, getting a sense of how it all worked.
Midday – Continue on to a clear, natural lagoon for lunch. Shallow water, sand underfoot — a place to settle in for the afternoon. Swim, snorkel, or just stay in the water for a while before moving on. Check out the coral reefs if conditions are good.
Keep an eye out as you go — dolphins pass through here, and there’s steady birdlife along the coast.
Afternoon – Cruise back to Kilwa.
7:30 PM – Final dinner, family-style — fresh seafood, Swahili cooking, and a trip’s worth of stories to tell.
9:00 PM – Overnight.
Day 5: Departure
8:00 AM – Breakfast, then back to Dar — a few days that tend to stay with you.
