The Full Slow

Location:

Dar es salaam, Selous, Kilwa

7 nights · Breakfast · Full board

Day 1: Arrival in Dar es Salaam

12:00 PM – Arrive at The Slow Leopard Dar and check in.

Afternoon – Stick close to the Slow as you get settled into Dar. Go for a walk along the cliffs by Sea Cliff or along Coco Beach, where Dar's energy spills onto the sand. If you'd rather browse, the Slipway market is worth an hour or two — local craft, cold drinks, and good people-watching. For something quieter, Rangi Gallery has one of the better collections of contemporary Tanzanian art in the city.

Sunset – Sundowners at the Slipway as the light drops over the bay.

7:30 PM – Dinner and drinks at The Slow Leopard Dar.

9:00 PM – Overnight at The Slow.

Meals and activities in Dar are at your own pace and expense — the team at The Slow is happy to point you in the right direction.

Day 2: Getting Under the Skin of Dar

Morning – Breakfast at The Slow, then out early before the heat builds. Down to the Kivukoni Fish Market early to catch the fish auctions — busy, loud, and worth it. From there, into the city centre. DARCH is a good anchor — colonial-era buildings and the stories behind the streets outside.

Midday – Lunch in town, then across to Kariakoo market for the afternoon. One of East Africa's great markets, and good for textiles, spices, and anything else you didn't know you needed.

6:30 PM – Back to The Slow for an early night.

Day 3: Journey to Selous & Sunset Boat Safari

12:00 PM – Arrive at camp in time for lunch by the river.

1:00 PM – Check in and settle into your bush tent. The afternoon is yours — the pool, the shade, or whatever wanders past camp.

4:00 PM – Sunset boat safari along the Rufiji River. Hippos in numbers, crocodiles on the banks, and serious birdlife all the way. The boat stops at a sandbank for sundowners as the light drops.

7:30 PM – Dinner at camp, family-style.

9:00 PM – Overnight in the bush.

Day 4: Slow Selous in Nyerere National Park

6:00 AM – Early breakfast, then out before the heat kicks in.

7:00 AM – Full-day Slow Selous, our signature experience. Begin the day with a game drive into Nyerere National Park. Open plains, riverine forest, and floodplains — following what's around rather than sticking to a fixed route.

1:00 PM – Bush picnic lunch. Mats, cushions, no rush.

Afternoon – Board the boat in the park and spend the afternoon game viewing from the water. Cruise back to camp on the river as the animals come down to drink.

5:30 PM – Return to camp as the sun sets over the Rufiji.

7:30 PM – Dinner. The day usually gives you something to talk about.

9:00 PM – Overnight in camp.

Day 5: Journey to the Kilwa Coast

8:00 AM – Breakfast, then head south toward the coast.

12:00 PM – Arrive in Kilwa in time for lunch.

1:00 PM – Check in and settle in. A swim in the Indian Ocean, or a spot in the shade.

Afternoon – Enjoy the slower pace of coastal life.

7:30 PM – Dinner — fresh seafood, Swahili flavours, and a welcoming table.

9:00 PM – Overnight by the ocean.

Day 6: Swahili Coast — Ruins & Snorkelling

8:00 AM – Breakfast at The Slow in the shade of palm trees.

10:00 AM – Out by boat to Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara — two UNESCO World Heritage Sites with coral-stone mosques, houses, and walls spread out and largely untouched.

Midday – A clear natural lagoon for lunch. Shallow water, sand underfoot — swim, snorkel, or just stay in the water a while.

Afternoon – Cruise back to Kilwa.

7:30 PM – Final dinner at The Slow in Kilwa — fresh seafood, Swahili cooking, a trip's worth of stories.

9:00 PM – Overnight.

Day 7: Back to Dar

8:00 AM – Breakfast in Kilwa, then the journey back north.

Afternoon – Arrive at The Slow Leopard Dar. Check in, find a spot, stay there. Nothing left to squeeze in.

7:30 PM – Dinner at The Slow.

9:00 PM – Overnight. The city hums on outside.

Day 8: Departure

8:00 AM – Breakfast, then onward.

Itinerary

Seven nights across three of Tanzania's most distinct corners — the energy of Dar es Salaam, the wilderness of Nyerere National Park, and the quiet of the Swahili coast.

It starts in the city, where there's just enough time to get a feel for Tanzania before the bush takes over. Two nights in the Selous follow — game drives, the Rufiji River, and the stillness of the African bush at night. Then south to Kilwa, where the pace drops, the water gets clearer, and centuries-old ruins sit a short boat ride from the beach.

The final night bring you back to Dar — slower this time, with nowhere to be.
